How do I read this book? The book is written in HTML. It can be read in any web browser like Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera. Navigate to the BGAIP directory after you unzip the book and double-click on the start.html file and the book should open in your web browser. -------------------------------- What operating systems is needed for the book? The book will work onWindows, Mac, iOS and Android computers and devices, and should work on most Linux and Unix computers also although it has not been tested on them. The book is written in HTML code. This is standard code that displays pages in any web browser, so the book is not really operating system dependent. Because of the vast number of operating systems and versions, updates, patches, and service packs, it was impossible to test the book on every single one. It was tested on most versions of Windows, Mac and Android and it works fine on all of them. If the book does not work on your system, you may delete it and notify the publisher for a full refund. -------------------------------- What web browser do I need for the book? Like operating systems, there are a vast number of web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Opera, Mozilla, Safari, and Firefox. There are also different versions of each. The book should work in most of them. The book was tested on all of the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari and it works in all of them. If the book does not work on your web browser, you can try upgrading to the latest version of the browser you are using, or if you are unwilling to do that, you may delete the book and notify the publisher for a full refund. You really should be running the latest web browser anyway because of security concerns. -------------------------------- How do I get the book to open? I click on the book in the zip file but stuff doesn't work. What's wrong? The book is sent as a zip file so all of the files are in one container that you download. The zip file is compressed to save space for the download. After the zip file is downloaded, it must be "unzipped" and uncompressed so you can correctly access the files. Once you have completely downloaded the zip file successfully, navigate to the location of the zip file and unzip it. Windows - Right click on the zip file and select "Extract" Mac - Double click on the zip file and it should unzip to your downloads folder. iOS iPad and iPhone - see the instructions here: http://www.astropix.com/bgaip/ios.html Android - see the instructions here: http://www.astropix.com/bgaip/android.html After you have successfully unzipped the BGAIP.zip file, the book will be located in a folder named "BGAIP". Be sure to make a note of its location so you can find it! The book is not an application or an executable file, and it will not open automatically on it's own. You have to open one of its pages to start, just like you would have to open the cover and turn to the first page of a traditional book. The book is written as web pages, in HTML format. You have to open one of the pages in a web browser to start reading the book. Go into your file manager program (Windows Explorer or Mac Finder) and click on the BGAIP folder and you should see the files "help.txt" and "start.html". Double click on the "start.html" file and the book should open in your web browser. Alternatively, you can start your web browser and use the File > Open menu in the browser to navigate to the BGAIP folder and open the "start.html" file. Or you can press the control key plus letter O on the keyboard on a Windows machine, or command + O on a Mac. -------------------------------- How do I navigate in the book? You can navigate through every page in the book clicking on "Next", "Up", and "Back" text links in the upper right-hand corner and bottom of every page. The Back link will take you to the previous page, and the Next link will take you to the next page. The Up link will take you to the up one level to that section's menu. You can go through every page in the book, in order, by clicking on the Next link at the top right of every page, just like turning the pages of a regular printed book. You can go directly to a page by clicking on it in one of the Table of Contents for each chapter. You can also find a subject by using the "Search" link on each page and clicking on the links that are returned. -------------------------------- Why don't some of the links in the book work when I click on them? Links from one page inside the book to another page inside the book will work. Some of the links in the text in the chapters, and all of the links in the references and resources sections of the appendix, are links to information and web sites on the internet. Your computer must have a working connection to the internet that is active for these links to work. -------------------------------- How do I get search to work in GoodReader on an iPad or iPhone? There is a quirk in GoodReader when you try to use the search function. If you just tap normally in the search box, the keypad will come up but then quickly disappear. So how do you type in your search term? Just tap in the search box and hold there for a long second. The keypad should then come up and stay there so you can type in your search term. -------------------------------- What is the Microsoft Security Warning that I get every time I load a page? Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Edge may display a warning message when you open the book. The "active content" that Internet Explorer is blocking are tiny snippets of javascript that allow the images to change on mouse clicks and run the search function as well as the videos. This book has been thoroughly scanned for viruses and nothing on it presents any threat to your computer. If you trust the author and publisher, please allow this blocked content. If you do not, please delete the book and notify the publisher for a full refund. You can click on this information bar and select "Allow blocked content". Or, you can use a browser like Chrome, Opera, Safari or Firefox that does not have these kinds of security problems. -------------------------------- Can I copy the book to the internet so I can access it anywhere?
